Travel photography

New places. New insights. A new perspective on life and home and abroad.

Among my myriad assignments at the Post was travel editor. I loved the thought of capturing memories in words. I feared the thought of capturing memories on film. So, I worked three times as hard on learning to take photos of the monuments, people and landscapes as I did on collecting notes and writing travel stories. I worked so hard that I got lost in the photos, more than I ever did in writing.

The experience liberated a part of me that had been jailed by The Art Nun, who told me in first grade that I’d never be an artist because I couldn’t color in the lines. Even more than writing, photography is about the journey.
